Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
